In the early days of cinema, in 1895, during the screening of Sea Bathing, spectators leaned back or even stepped aside, thinking the waves would come out of the screen and soak them inside the theater.

In cinema, what’s known as “out of frame” refers to what is not visible in the projected image but can still be perceived and imagined by the viewer.

In 2020, in Rio de Janeiro, dance workers — impacted by the pandemic and its social consequences — were called to enter the screens. In that context, the dance film short, short, long and sometimes short, long, short was born.

Out of Frame, an analog 3D film, throws itself into the effort to exit the screen — the frame — and reveals itself in the collective act of folding and unfolding what is (not) there — in the film.
